Six students at Leeds Metropolitan University staged the Tourism Society Yorkshire Spring Lunch and Seminar recently. The Yorkshire branch of the Tourism Society organises events throughout Yorkshire and is a network for those in the tourism sector.
The event at the Leeds Industrial Museum followed a Yorkshire theme both regional and local.
The event involved a tour of the Leeds Industrial Museum where delegates heard presentations about tourism businesses in Yorkshire. John Gallery, Tourism Society Yorkshire Chairman, said: “Tourism is one of the most important drivers in the economy and our events are designed to inform and engage”.
Presenters included Sally Tierney, The Yorkshire Garden Designer and business personality Keith Madeley, who is also Chairman of The Yorkshire Society.
Alex Blackman, Business Development Executive at Welcome to Yorkshire, explained how Yorkshire would be organising the Tour de France Grand Depart in July and advised how businesses could take advantage of the event.
Gallery praised the work of the student organisers. “Working with these six enthusiastic students has been an excellent experience and hopefully by providing them with the opportunity to stage a live event as part of their course projects, we have contributed to their progress into this important sector of tourism,” he said.
