Venue finding and event management agency Conference Care recruited as a full time Events Consultant, Jade Smith (pictured), who came to the agency as its first HBAA National Graduate Placement Scheme student.
Smith finished her placement at the Warwickshire-based agency in July 2013 before returning to her studies to complete her BA Honours Degree in Events Management at Coventry University, while working for Conference Care part time.
Now a full time Events Consultant, she works on new business enquiries in the operations team. “Conference Care gave me a unique insight into the industry during my placement,” said Smith. “I am excited at the prospect of further developing my career with them.”
Conference Care have now welcomed five students to the team since the programme began in 2012. Elena Vasile, who has just completed her placement year, plans to continue working for the agency part time while she completes her degree, and two further students Sophie Wightman and Emily Amos are due to start their placement in June.
Ian Webster, Senior Lecturer in Event Management and Head of Business Engagement at Coventry University, said: “We are very grateful for the opportunities Conference Care has given our students. Demand for placements has been very high – the company treats students as real employees and they return to their final year with a more professional attitude and outlook. They also produce more intellectual and academic pieces of work and are far more employable when they complete their degree.”
Conference Care Director Chris Peacock, who pioneered student placements in his year of office as Chair of the HBAA, added that the scheme was about developing future talent for the sector. “By helping students get the best start they can, we are supporting the Industry, and investing in both their future and our own.”
