Adam Bates launches

Former Tourism Director at Brighton & Hove and Head of Business Tourism at VisitBritain, Adam Bates, has launched a new site for conference organisers, aims to become a global directory of conference destinations and a resource for organisers to find distinctive destinations for their events.

The site provides organisers with a tool for reviewing the places they have used, not unlike TripAdvisor, and to share their experiences. There is also a simple tool for getting proposal requests into the hands of convention bureaus.

“This site helps potential buyers understand what makes destinations unique, distinctive and compelling and lets them share feedback about places used – good and bad,” says Bates.

“Having run a successful national and city convention bureau as well as a 5,000 seat arena and conference centre, it has always surprised me that while there are terrific resources for leisure travellers, the same isn’t always true for conference and meeting planners,” Bates adds.

Bates is taking the project to IMEX in Frankfurt and says take up has been good. ”We are adding 10 destinations a week and by the end of the year will have developed the most comprehensive resource for organisers.”

Bates says that while there are many resources which highlight individual venues, for many buyers the choice of venues is almost too great with hundreds of thousands of conference centres, hotels and unique venues around the world. By finding the right destination first, he argues, the buyer can usually secure a great venue and deliver a memorable event.

The site is free for organisers and there is no need to register. Enquiries handled via the site are commission free and Bates says destinations can put a large amount of material on the site for free to promote themselves. There is a fee for enhanced promotion via the site.

Venuesadvisor is offering the first 10 destinations to sign up for an enhanced presence all of the benefits free for one year.
