Newcastle United FC’s strikers may be struggling for service on the pitch, but the club’s fans have become the first in the country to benefit from an app which allows them to have refreshments delivered to their seat during a game.
The VenueMenu app, which has been operating in North America for a number of years, has been trialled at St James’ Park by event caterer Sodexo Prestige, which is working with the company as it plans to grow the scheme across the UK.
Users download the free app on to their smartphone or access it via their browser and then register, allowing them to pre-order food and drink from 24 hours before a match up until half time. These are then delivered to their seat during the game, having already been paid for.
A series of prizes are on offer at the stadium to promote the app and the first winner was Magpies fan Claire Giles, who won a football signed by the team.
“I’ve been using VenueMenu since it was available at St James’ Park,” said Claire.
“We are delighted that we are the first stadium in the UK to use VenueMenu,” said Chris Reed, Retail Catering Manager North Region, Sodexo Prestige. “It has certainly been very popular with the fans here at St James’.”
