St George’s Park, the FA training centre near Burton, has just hosted its largest conference event to date, with BT bringing its Openreach training event involving 3,000 delegates to the site last week. Six hundred delegates came each day for five days and BT’s Events Manager for Opeanreach, Carol Chaney, tells CN most of the delegates came for the day only and the venue was chosen for the event this year, not least because BT is one of the sponsors of St George’s Park.
“We hoped that as the venue is the home of the Football Associaiton it would entice delegates. Previously we have been ‘on the road’ to Scotland, Harrogate, Manchester, Bristol and London with the event. Our conference is all about connectivity and not straightforward, requiring a live feed to each stand. We needed a meet and greet area, an area for exhibitions and a main plenary space. There were interactive sessions and our CEO Joe Garner was involved, so we required a certain size and specification of venue which St George’s Park met.”
St George’s Park Commercial Manager, Holly Glover, tells CN: “The Openreach event has been a huge success – we’ve had nearly 3,000 business executives here over the course of last week and it really shows the capability within not only our extensive hotel facilities, but within the football centre, to cater for large-scale corporate conferences.
“This event was the largest of its kind we’ve held to date at St. George’s Park, and adds to the other 2,500 conference events and meetings we’ve had since we opened in Autumn 2012.”
