Chairman of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC), Will Whitehorn has announced that Peter Duthie has been appointed as Chief Executive of the Scottish Exhibition Centre Ltd.
Duthie will assume full responsibility for the entire business operation of the SECC and SSE Hydro. The appointment is effective from 19 April when the current CEO John Sharkey departs the company.
Duthie joined the company in 1984, rising to the position of Commercial Director in 2008. Having been with the company since its inception, Duthie has played an integral part in all aspects of its evolution with extensive experience gained across all sectors of the business. As well as being responsible for all commercial activity on the SECC campus including sponsorship, he has managed strategic partnerships, joint ventures, acquisitions and disposals, and overseen all group legal matters for the company.
“The recruitment process for the position of CEO has been a rigorous one with a large number of candidates and lengthy interview process for what is a sought after and challenging job,” said Whitehorn. “Peter emerged as the best candidate on his own merit and the fact that he has done so reflects the standing of the SECC team in the UK and wider market.
“I am looking forward to working with Peter to continue building the SECC and SSE Hydro into a powerhouse of entertainment, sport, conferences, exhibitions and other facilities at the heart of Glasgow’s growing economy and we are planning considerable further investment at the site to achieve this.”
Duthie said: “With the opening of The SSE Hydro, I believe the SECC to be the leading event and entertainment campus in the UK. The business is well placed for a great future, moving from a period of development to the challenge of fully exploiting the assets which have been created. I look forward to being in a position to lead and direct the company at such an exciting time”.
