Exhibitor and hosted buyer numbers were up at the second edition of Baltic MICE trade show, Convene last week.
Organisers say 150 hosted buyers attended the show, 12-13 February, in Vilnius, Lithuania. This represented growth of 30 per cent on the inaugural edition in 2013. Twelve hosted buyers from the UK attended this year, compared to eight in 2013.
Exhibitors came from eight countries, with Sweden and Belarus new to the fold this year.
Christian Bergstrom from the Stockholm Convention Bureau was on his first visit to Convene and said his team had benefitted from meeting new corporate agents and associations.
Aigars Smiltans of Meet Riga, praised the way the Baltic States had been working together to promote the region as a whole: “Convene is a good platform for us to promote Riga and Latvia as a destination. The show helps us reach our targets in a direct way”.
Director of the Baltic Travel Group, Egle Jaugiene, added: “The second year of Convene showed that our region is interesting for the international MICE community and the demand of entering this important new market is rapidly growing”.
Exhibitors held more than 3,100 meetings with pre-qualified hosted buyers from 26 countries. Roman Brusenskiy, President of Russian company Actava, said the show had been productive. “I have made a lot of new contacts and I think that Convene has potential for the Russian market.”
Hosted buyers attended evening networking events that showcased some of the best venues in Vilnius, including the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
Convene 2015 will be held on 11-12 February.
