Students help win association business for Aberdeen

Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) has announced two new conference wins for 2014.

The European Student Energy Summit (ESES) will take place in June and is expected to draw 300 delegates, and the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) European Conference which will take place in December 2014.

The ESES announcement confirms Aberdeen as the host city for the Conference’s European Chapter; with Mexico City and Cape Town winning the bid to host for the Latin America and African Chapter events.

The ESES Conference was secured after University of Aberdeen students Malgorzata Olesiewicz and Lora Dimitrova bid for it with support from AECC.

The conference programme will focus on the region; addressing issues and giving delegates an understanding of the role Aberdeen plays in global energy systems and dynamics.

The 2014 IADC Well Control Europe Conference returns to Aberdeen after a successful 2010 conference at AECC.  It is expected to attract around 200 delegates to the region.

AECC MD Brian Horsburgh said: “AECC is delighted to be working with students from the University of Aberdeen to bring the ESES event to the region.  We look forward to welcoming the conference next summer and are pleased that the IADC have chosen to return to the city for its December 2014 conference.”
