London conference and event venue, Wellcome Collection, has gift aided £647,000 back to the Wellcome Trust at the end of its financial year.
This year’s profits come from a variety of conferences and events, ranging from book launches to award ceremonies, which the venue has hosted over the last 12 months.
The Collection boasts seven event spaces and annually donates profit from the venue and its galleries to the Wellcome Trust, a global charitable foundation dedicated to achieving improvements in human and animal health. The Trust spends around £600m every year, both in the UK and internationally, supporting the brightest minds in biomedical research and the medical humanities.
“On the back of a successful financial year in terms of conferencing and events business, we’re thrilled to donate such a large amount of money back to the Wellcome Trust,” says Daniel Caleb, Event Spaces Manager at Wellcome Collection. “It’s great to highlight how we are able to contribute to the Trust’s mission, through the success of our events spaces.”
Wellcome Collection, which can accommodate up to 510 guests, is currently undergoing a £17.5m redevelopment as part of a wider scheme to increase the capacity of the areas available to the public in line with demand. The redevelopment of the spaces and reopening of the conference facilities is due for completion in May 2014.
The conference centre, currently closed for refurbishment, includes a tiered auditorium along with four flexible event spaces. Drinks receptions can also take place in the Medicine Now Gallery or the Reading Room in the Wellcome Library.
