Manchester Central lines up series of sporting events

Conference, exhibition and events venue Manchester Central is gearing up to host some of the world’s greatest athletes over the coming weeks.

Manchester Central played host to the pre-fight weigh-ins of UFC’s Manchester Fight Night on 25 October, and this weekend (3-4 November) the venue will host the grand finale of the AJ Bell World Squash Championships, when the best 64 squash players in the world will battle it out for the sport’s greatest prize.

Bringing the sporting extravaganza at Manchester Central to a close is the Taekwondo Grand Prix, which will take place 13-15 December. It is the world’s first ever Taekwondo Grand Prix, led by the World Taekwondo Federation, and will see 250 of the world’s top Taekwondo fighters across eight different weight categories taking part.

Other sporting-related events at the venue have included a VIP evening for Manchester United before its Champions League match with Real Madrid, and a pre-seson launch event for Manchester City, which was attended by thousands of fans and VIP guests.

“While Manchester Central has firmly established itself as one of the UK’s market leading venues for hosting some of the leading national and international exhibitions, conferences and events, we are now seeing major sporting organisations also realising how versatile we can be as a venue,” says Chief Executive of Manchester Central, Angie Robinson. “Whether it is hosting a live sporting event, a VIP event, or an element of a sporting occasion, our spaces deliver an awe-inspiring backdrop and a unique atmosphere.”
