IET Glasgow: Teacher Building to host media hub for Commonwealth Games

The IET Glasgow: Teacher Building in St Enoch Square has been chosen as the Destination Media Hub (DMH) for the 20th Commonwealth Games, which will be held in the Scottish city in 2014.

The Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, VisitScotland and VisitBritain have announced they will jointly operate the DMH as a home-from-home facility for visiting UK and international press and broadcasters who will be in Glasgow during the 20th Commonwealth Games.

The venue will operate as the DMH from 20 July to 4 August between 8am and 8pm and will be open to all 2014 accredited media as well as all other bonafide UK and international lifestyle, features, business and digital media.

“We have the experience and team to play host to the media during Glasgow’s hosting of The Games and we are ready for the anticipated volume of people that will walk through our doors,” says Venue Manager at IET Glasgow: Teacher Building, Justin Livesey. “We have witnessed the fervour that such an event can do for a venue and a city like London and we are prepared to do what it takes to ensure our role here in Glasgow during 2014 is successful.”

Built in the early 1870s, the building was commissioned by whisky magnate William Teacher and for 100 years it was home to the Teacher’s Whisky when its ground and first floors were used for storing vats, casks and bottling activities.

Part of the IET Venues group, IET Glasgow: Teacher Building became a conference and events venue in 1995 and boasts 14 meeting rooms across four floors. Its counterpart IET London: Savoy Place was chosen as the official Olympic House of Qatar, during the 2012 Olympic Games.

“The 2014 Commonwealth Games offers yet another opportunity to generate publicity and international goodwill towards Glasgow, Scotland and Britain,” says VisitBritain Head of International Media and Destination PR, Paul Gauger. “With important tourism markets such as Australia, Canada, India and New Zealand sending media representatives to the Games, VisitBritain is delighted to be working with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and VisitScotland on the Destination Media Hub.
