EICC Chief Executive Rissmann to retire in April 2015

Hans Rissmann OBE, Chief Executive of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) is to retire in April 2015. The announcement was made by EICC Chair, City of Edinburgh Councillor Gordon Munro.

“Finding a successor for Hans will take time and the position will undoubtedly attract international interest,” said Munro. “As a city we owe Hans a great debt having entered the international congress marketplace with an iconic purpose built facility under his stewardship.”

Sue Bruce, City of Edinburgh Council Chief Executive, added: “We have been fortunate to have had Hans at the helm at EICC for 20 years. He has made a huge personal contribution through his leadership. In that time the conference centre has hosted close to one million delegates and delivered an economic impact in excess of £400m to the city.”

EICC opened its expansion space earlier this year with global medical conference International Investigative Dermatology 2013 and the British Association of Dermatologists has committed to bringing its annual conference to the city in 2018.

In other Edinburgh-related news, representatives from the city have been invited as special guests to attend the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) international tourism summit in Beijing this September, following Edinburgh’s inauguration to the organisation last year.

Making the journey to China for the four-day conference are Carol Wilkin from Marketing Edinburgh and Susan Russell from Festivals Edinburgh.

The 2013 Beijing Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit will focus on the role of tourism in promoting sustainable development and economic growth for WTCF cities.
