Meet Telford and Shropshire has announced that work has commenced on a £200,000 addition to its outdoor events offering.
A new aerial ropes course is being installed in Telford Town Park and forms part of the wider ongoing regeneration of the two centres, investment in which currently stands at over £450m.
The project is being developed by Telford and Wrekin Council in partnership with operators Closer to the Edge, who will deliver a range of outdoor challenge, learning and development activities including teambuilding, corporate events and away days, and residential courses.
“The development of this project is fantastic news for Telford and is part of our long-term strategy to further enhance the region’s destination offer and transform it into one of the leading events capitals in the UK,” says Business Tourism Manager at Meet Telford and Shropshire, Sarah Bird.
“As one of the largest urban parks in the UK covering a 170-hectare site and incorporating a 6,000-capacity arena, Telford Town Park offers endless opportunities for fringe events and this new facility will create an attractive proposition for those looking for a first-rate visitor experience. Not only that, but the 6,500sqm of outdoor space is directly interlinked with The International Centre, Telford with its 15,000sqm of floor space, 15 rooms, and three connecting halls,” she adds.
The new project will incorporate a high rope course nine metres off the ground and a low rope course three to four metres off the ground as well as a 100 metre zip-wire and a powerfan descender. It will be officially launched towards the end of September.
“The commencement of work on the rope course is perfectly timed with the forthcoming launch of our dedicated ’Reach Out’ campaign, part of our wider ’Be Inspired’ initiative focused on encouraging the business community to look at Telford and Shropshire with a fresh pair of eyes. Reach Out is aimed at showcasing the teambuilding opportunities our region offers, including everything from sporting challenges to the indulgence of our rural retreats, and this latest venture just adds to the diverse experiences available,” says Bird.
