North East events company, 1879 Events Management, is celebrating its first year in business, during which it has catered for 50,000 people.
1879 Events Management, a subsidiary of Sunderland AFC, was launched in summer 2012 to offer a one-stop solution for event organisers across the North East.
In 12 months, it has provided catering and event management services for events including the North East’s largest LGBT festival, Newcastle Pride, the North East Business Teesside Awards at Teesside University and the 2012 Sunderland Retail Awards in the city’s Bridges Shopping Centre.
The company, which also manages events at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light ground, was recently awarded its first local authority contract, to act as a ticketing agent and catering supplier for the Sound Waves 2013 concert, organised by South Tyneside Council.
It has also been appointed to provide catering for all corporate and private events at the re-launched National Glass Centre, Sunderland, as well as to run the day to day operation of the venue’s Brasserie.
“1879 Events Management has been able to use Sunderland AFC’s experience of hosting events at the Stadium of Light to offer a comprehensive events management service for the whole of the North East and beyond,” says Commercial Director at Sunderland AFC, Gary Hutchinson.
