Searcys to open REP’s new bar and brasserie in September

Contract and event caterer Searcys is to open the Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s (REP) Centenary Bar & Brasserie on Centenary Square this September following a two and a half year refurbishment.

Searcys, the company behind the catering at the Gherkin, St Pancras Grand and 30 Euston Square, was rewarded the £13m contract following a tender process late last year. The company will be providing all catering at the venue, which will include the 90-cover restaurant, external terrace and onsite café and bars, as well as the dedicated conference and banqueting offer, over the next five years.

Searcys, will, in partnership with the REP, service the refurbished hospitality suites, which will be able to host between 120-150 people. The REP will also gain a new 300-seat studio theatre, shared with its neighbour the Library of Birmingham, in addition to its existing 800-seat main auditorium and 140-seat theatre, The Door.
The REP has been closed for the last two years for refurbishment. The work has included significant improvements to the theatre’s bars and restaurants, which have been remodelled to be more open and accessible.

The kitchen will be overseen by Michelin-starred chef Paul Welburn, formerly head chef at Gary Rhodes’ flagship restaurant in London.

“We are excited to be a part of the redevelopment of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and to have a presence in the UK’s second city,” says Searcys CEO Doug Tetley.
