Battersea Power Station to launch new Power House events venue

The iconic London landmark Battersea Power Station is to close its events marquee, The Boiler House, at the end of September to make way for The Power House event space, which will open in October 2013.
The removal for the marquee will allow work on the £8bn redevelopment of the site to go ahead. In July 2012 the site had been acquired by a Malaysian property consortium for £400m. The new owners, Sime Dary Berhad, SP Setia Berhad and the Employees Provident Fund officially entered into an agreement on 4 July 2012 to form the new Battersea Project Holding Company overseeing the site’s redevelopment over the next 15 years.
The Boiler House, which could cater for up to 1,000 standing delegates or 600 seated, opened in early 2010 as a temporary marquee venue available for private hire.
Events management company Industri Management had been bought in to manage the venue. Industri Management will continue to support confirmed bookings for its clients until 2 December 2013, in conjunction with the in-house events team at Battersea Power Station and after that will assist those clients who wish to stage events on the Battersea Power Station site, including in The Power House.
“It will be sad to see the Boiler House close at the end of September,” says MD of Industri Management, Tarek Gjonnes. “However, it is now time that we focus on our growing portfolio with more venues being launched in the near future.”
Rob Tincknell, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company, added: “Over the last four years Industri Management and Battersea Power Station have made sure the iconic Battersea Power Station has been a forum for some of the best parties, launches and events Britain has to offer and in the process welcomed thousands of guests into the building.”
Despite being closed since 1983, Battersea Power Station is still used by film and television companies to this day, with its location and buildings being used in Hollywood blockbusters like Batman: The Dark Knight and The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus.
