The first event within the frame of the inaugural Meetings Show UK opened this morning, 8 July, with an Association Conference at the QEII Conference Centre, London.
Planning in the association sector is the theme of the conference programme with 80 delegates registered, according to the organisers.
The conference is targetting not-for-profit executives with bespoke content and is the curtain raiser for the Show proper which opens at Olympia, 9 July.
Organisers split the Association Conference into job-specific education streams designed to appeal more directly to the constituent parts of the sector, specifically: association managers, conference organisers and association management companies.
There are separate ‘buyer’ and ‘supplier’ sessions with keynote sessions open to all participants.
Economist Professor Dominic Swords kicked off proceedings with a plenary address ‘Growth in challenging times – the economic backcloth’.
Other speakers throughout the day include Linda Pereira, Senior Partner and CEO of L&I Communications Group and Executive Director of CPL Events and Paul Bridle, Leadership Methodologist. Elling Hamso, Managing Partner of Event ROI is speaking on the ROI pyramid and ABPCO’s Michael Foreman and HelmsBriscoe’s Carole McKellar are also leading sessions.
The Meetings Show UK Event Director, Steve Knight, said: “We recognise that in-house association staff have very different needs from AMCs and PCOs; their job roles are very different and all too often education is too generic.
“Association Day is designed to provide attendees with a balanced and targeted learning experience.”
