Chilford Hall fighting back a year after fire

A year on from the fire which destroyed the 400-year-old events venue at Chilford Hall in Linton, Cambridgeshire, and a new events venue has phoenixed from the flames.

A new venue, The Garden Rooms, was officially opened at Chilford Hall, with 120 local business people invited to an open evening. Guests sampled wine from the onsite 20-acre vineyard and canapés.

The Garden Rooms are a T-shaped, semi permanent glass and metal frame construction and will enable Chilford Hall to continue to host weddings, conferences, private parties, meetings and events in its grounds, which offer car parking for 1,000 cars and a helicopter landing pad.

The structure comprises two distinct but joined spaces: the Garden Reception room and the Garden Terrace which, between them, have capacity to hold up to 250 people for a reception and 150 cabaret style for conferences.

Glen Mejias, Director and General Manager of Chilford Hall, says: “The new Garden Rooms really are a fantastic addition and we are pleased at the feedback we have already received from event planners and couples who have called us or visited the site. We have already secured 25 wedding bookings this year and hosted the Annual House and Garden Fair for the Asthma UK charity.”

Following the arson attack in June 2012, eight full-time staff and a number of casual staff were made redundant at Chilford Hall.
