The organiser of the IMEX Frankfurt meetings industry trade show that opens next week hopes to achieve 100 signatories by senior politicians for a Declaration of Support for the meetings industry by the end of 2013.
Politicians attending the IMEX Politicians Forum will be invited to sign the ‘Declaration of Support’ on 21 May at the trade show in Frankfurt.
Tourism ministers from Egypt, Mexico and South Africa, together with the Deputy Mayor of Frankfurt and the CEO of the Singapore Tourism Board, are due to be among the 35 senior politicians attending.
A private networking breakfast for the politicians will be facilitated by the Honorable Nick de Bois, MP (pictured).
The senior politicians will also attend the IMEX Opening Ceremony, which will be followed by a visit to their destination stand on the show floor. The group then transfers to the Villa Kennedy for a closed panel discussion.
During this session they will all be invited to sign the ‘Declaration of Support’ for the meetings industry*.
The Declaration is to be circulated subsequently throughout the industry.
The wording of the Declaration was crafted under the scrutiny of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) and other advisers and will also be used to support JMIC’s ‘Speak Up’ campaign.
The Honorable Ernesto Orillac, Vice-Minister of Tourism for Panama was the first to sign the declaration in advance of the show, followed by His Excellency Hisham Zaazou, Minister of Tourism for Egypt.
Show organisers have grown the Forum as a senior political audience has become more aware of the meetings and events industry’s true economic power. This follows a growing number of impact studies now being funded and undertaken around the world – notably in the US, Mexico, Canada, Germany and, most recently, the UK.
IMEX Chairman, Ray Bloom says: “We belong to a diverse global market which is constantly going through different cycles of change and development. One of the results is that our Politicians Forum is fast becoming the single industry event that mobilises destinations from all over the world to invite their politicians’ presence and public support. It also provokes the industry to listen and, importantly, to act. The need for political advocacy never stops and we are always delighted to provide a platform at IMEX in Frankfurt.”
The Politicians Forum is organised in collaboration with European Cities Marketing (ECM) and the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC), under the auspices of JMIC.
