The National Railway Museum in York has won the ’Conference Venue of the Year’ award at the 2013 Visit York Tourism Awards, a month after completing its refurbishment.
During the 2012-13 financial year, the museum’s conference centre hosted 20,000 corporate hire visitors and in April 2013 underwent a refurbishment to further enhance its facilities. The six conference suites have been renamed after some of the most revered locomotives in the Museum’s collection, such as ’Mallard’ and ’Rocket’. The venue can host up to 140 delegates.
The refurbishment has also seen the transformation of the Station Hall following a £1.4m construction and interpretation project, which represents the first major investment in the space since it was created.
“This year is a significant one in the development of our spaces and this all serves to add value to our corporate and private events offer,” says Communications Manager for Events at the National Railway Museum, Alicia Earls.
“The awards win highlights that unique venues are still highly-sought after for business events, as well as our commitment to providing the best facilities in the city.”
