Manchester Central has unveiled a new rooftop garden that will supply Manchester Central’s chefs with herbs and spices for their culinary dishes.
The North of England events, exhibition and conference venue has put the garden on its roof to make the best possible sustainable use of its space.
“This herb garden is in the centre of Manchester and is a wonderful development for us,” says Executive Chef at Manchester Central, Simon Firth. “Manchester Central does everything possible to work in a sustainable way and you really can’t source food more locally than by taking it from your own roof.”
In December 2012, Manchester Central achieved the national events standard for sustainability, ISO20121 and has brought in new electric car charging points and energy efficient lighting. Through its sustainable drive the venue has reduced its power bills by 50 per cent.
