Hampshire-based Grass Roots DMS has been recognised as a London 2012 Supplier of Delegate Management Services by the British Olympic Association.
The company specialises in complex, multi-layered registration programmes for large events and was awarded the status for providing the scanning solution for the Games Maker orientation events for LOCOG, which ran between February and June 2012.
The programme consisted of six orientation events at Wembley Arena in London for volunteers from all over the country. Each event was attended by up to 10,000 volunteers, all of whom needed to be given speedy access to the venue within a target time of one hour.
The Grass Roots team researched the venue and established a series of access points to ensure each volunteer had the quickest route to their seat. To minimise the wait time at the gates, the teams controlling access were equipped with hand held scanners loaded with a bespoke access application, developed by Grass Roots, and data that had been transferred from LOCOG internal systems.
Games Maker Cindy Withey, who travelled into London for her orientation event from Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire, was impressed with the slickness of the entrance process: “Even though we were all naturally excited, it was still nice not to have to spend lengthy time queuing. It all felt extremely well organised and we were in and sat down in no time at all”.
Giselle Ripken, Managing Director of Grass Roots DMS (pictured), is delighted that the company was chosen to play a part in the world’s greatest sporting occasion: “It was extremely gratifying to win LOCOG’s trust as a partner in the preparation process for the Games Makers, and then a great thrill for the team to be involved in such a fantastic event”.
