Tower Bridge hosts VIP Launch of ‘This is London’ Exhibition

Last night (3 April) Tower Bridge played host to 100 press and VIPs who attended a special reception to launch the new ‘This is London’ exhibition on the high-level West Walkway.

Against the backdrop of city views from Tower Bridge, guests were able to view the child’s-eye illustrations of London’s most famous landmarks from Miroslav Sasek’s classic children’s book from 1959, including Big Ben, the London Underground and Buckingham Palace, while enjoying champagne and  food with a London twist provided by Walkways Event Management Partner, Seasoned Events.

The event drew guests from the world of children’s publishing, such as Whitbread Children’s Novel Award winner Judy Allen, illustrator Bridget Stevens-Marzo andchildren’s writer Nicholas Allen, as well as Neil Kerber, cartoonist for Private Eye and dignitaries from the City of London, who had all come to see the illustrations.

John Scott, Chairman of Culture, Heritage and Libraries for the City of London Corporation, said: “These vibrant images convey the optimism of London in the 1950s, yet their timeless quality makes them just as appealing sixty years on.”
