Science Museum sees 160% increase in major event bookings

South Kensington based events venue, the Science Museum, has seen a 160 per cent increase in major event bookings following last year’s £1.7m investment in its corporate events space.

Since transforming the Museum’s IMAX cinema and the Level One space for corporate hire, the venue says it has seen a significant increase in demand for large scale events such as annual conferences, awards ceremonies and product launches. Events of this kind made up 36 per cent of the venue’s events last year, equating to an overall growth of 160 per cent from 2011 to 2012.

Last year, the Science Museum invested £1.7m in the refurbishment of its facilities, including the installation of new equipment for the IMAX cinema, renovations of the exterior and main concourse, as well as the installation of façade lighting, new reception desks and additional digital signage throughout the venue.

“The growth in business over the past year demonstrates the success of our investments,” says Communications Manager for Events at the Science Museum, Alicia Earls. “We now have more availability to meet the requirements of the corporate event market. Unique venues are becoming increasingly sought after by event organisers, and this trend is really highlighted by the increased interest for major events in our venue.”

Clients who have hosted events at the venue include mobile network and owner of Orange and T Mobile brands, EE, which launched its 4G network at a press conference in the IMAX cinema in September 2012. The 700sqm blank canvas space on level one was selected as the backdrop for Acer’s Windows 8 launch in October 2012, and the same space was used in conjunction with the IMEX cinema as the Science Museum hosted the launch of Coca-Cola and WWF’s pan-European campaign ’Arctic Home’ in January 2013.
