Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has appointed Paul Van Deventer as the association’s new President and Chief Executive.
Van Deventer, who takes up the role from 29 April, had been Vice-President of the Health and Wellness Division at US pharmacy chain Walgreens and spent 22 years at American Express.
“Having led business groups for blue chip Fortune 100 companies, Paul is a seasoned senior executive with both international and travel industry experience and a proven track record for driving growth, creating brand value and developing high-performing, engaged teams from the inside out,” said Kevin Hinton, MPI Chairman and Executive Vice-President of Associated Luxury Hotels International.
Hinton said Van Deventer would be “a compelling evangelist for MPI”, as the association looks to expand its engagement with members, chapters, the business community and the broader meetings and events industry.
MPI’s membership is comprised of 21,000 members belonging to 71 chapters and clubs worldwide.
