Nevruz at Central Hall Westminster

Over 100 musicians and dancers from 13 different Turkic nations were united in London for a colourful debut concert of Nevruz presented by TURKSOY, an international organisation exploring, promoting and transmitting Turkic culture.Nevruz is a spring spectacular for all the family with music, song, dance and amazing costumes from all over Central Asia.

From the Mediterranean to the Siberian Sea, many countries and communities celebrate Nevruz (New Year or Spring Festival). According to the old Persian calendar, it’s the first day of the year and regarded as the start of spring, when the sun enters the house of Aries. Performers will represent the countries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Altai (RF), Republic of Bashkortostan (RF), Gagauzia (Republic of Moldova), Khakassia (RF), Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Sakha – Yakut (RF), Tyva (RF) and Crimea (Ukraine).

The 2013 Nevruz Celebration was held in co-operation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, the Promotion Fund of the Prime Ministry of the Republic of Turkey and the Embassies of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation and Turkey.
