Grass Roots divisions merge, EventCom leadership roles cut

Grass Roots plans to bring together Grass Roots Live, Grass Roots HBI, Grass Roots DMS and Grass Roots EventCom to form a single legal entity following the recent news the events management agency has restructured its Marlow-based Events and Communications division

The amalgamation of the various divisions will not involve any office location changes, but will seek to capitalise on synergies to better serve Grass Roots’ clients. Through redeployment and resignations, the agency says it has been able to reduce the number of anticipated redundancies to a total in the low-teens, which affect roles across the breadth of the business.

At Marlow, the joint EventCom leadership roles will no longer exist. Warren Hillier, Divisional Director for Events is currently “at risk” and undergoing a period of consultation while Jon Shilling, Divisional Director for Communications will manage the operation until a new leader is appointed to assume sole responsibility and continue to drive the business forward.

“It is regrettable to have to reduce headcount,” says Deputy Chairman of Events, David Hackett (pictured). “But as we re-define our go-to-market proposition we must be fit to compete.

“It is unfortunate that Warren finds himself in this position, which is not of his making and does not reflect on his performance or capability. We will be supporting him through this process in any way we can,” he adds.

Founded in the UK in 1980, the Grass Roots Group now operates in 15 countries with 14,000 clients, including 41 of the FTSE 100, 104 of the FT Global 500. Grass Roots UK has been listed in the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012 Sunday Times list of Best 100 companies to work for.
