Jurys Inn Glasgow, the largest hotel in Scotland, unveiled its new look to invited guests at a special VIP event on 14 March.
Guests at the Carnival and Comedy extravaganza were welcomed by Glasgow dance team The Rockettes performing a circus-inspired routine, followed by a comedy roadshow featuring headline acts from this year’s Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
“The hospitality trade has changed quite a bit over the last decade and we wanted to celebrate the fact Jurys Inn Glasgow has moved with it,” says the hotel’s GM, Barry Rowland. “We’re incredibly proud of the new look and the Carnival and Comedy night was a great way to welcome a different crowd to the hotel and showcase our facilities to guests from a range of industries.
“Everyone was relaxed and the atmosphere was buzzing. I must thank the Glasgow International Comedy Festival for providing the talent for our comedy showcaseseeing the whole room erupting with laughter was the perfect end to a fabulous evening.”
The majority of the entertainment took place on the conference floor, with the breakout area transformed by illuminated furniture from All Event Hire, a Rekorderlig cider bar and a DJ (Bryan Roseman of HD Spectrum).
A series of carnival stalls took over a number of meeting rooms for the evening, offering everything from a basketball shoot-out with members of the Glasgow Rocks team to the more traditional Hook-a-Duck and Tin Can Alley competitions.
The comedy showcase took place in the largest meeting room, with over 100 people seated theatre-style to enjoy a preview of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, featuring Billy Kirkwood, John Gavin, Phil Differ, Elaine Malcolmson and Ray Bradshaw.
The £3 million investment signals the first major redevelopment of the city centre hotel since it opened its doors in Glasgow back in 2003.
