IET Venues to host global audience including Bill Gates

IET Venues will put its technical capabilities to the test when it hosts the Global Grand Challenges Summit (12-13 March) simultaneously in two of its venues.
Microsoft’s Founder and Chairman Bill Gates will be the keynote speaker for the live and virtual audience, which includes live delegates at its IET London: Savoy Place and a virtual hub at the group’s Birmingham venue via a live stream.
Streamed live at IET Birmingham: Austin Court, delegates can watch and participate in the London event via the dedicated chat room service and Twitter feed. Adding to the technical pressures, Bill Gates will be connected via satellite to the event in London and across to the virtual hubs.
The event will also be made available in Bangalore, India where viewers can also watch the exclusive web cast online.
Details have ensured delegates attending the virtual hubs feel as if they are at the event itself; from dedicated moderators at each location to handing out the same goody bags. In addition, the virtual hubs are designed to reduce the need for local audiences to travel to London.
Delegates were asked to register their interest in the event and through a ballot process, selected to attend to event in person in London. Now sold out, the virtual hubs have been created to meet popular demand from delegates who want to participate in the two-day event, but who haven’t manage to secure in-person tickets for the event.
“This type of event is unprecedented for us but we have been selected, primarily, for the robust technological upgrade and investment made over the past few years, across our venues,” says the Venue and Facilities Manager at IET Venues, Sean Spencer. “We are responding to the fast evolving landscape of events so whether accommodating a face-to-face, virtual or hybrid event, venues need to showcase their capabilities to ensure they are meeting customer needs, both nationally and internationally.”
The Summit will see leading international engineering thinkers and innovators sharing ideas with the next generation of engineers and policy-makers on how to solve the world’s most pressing challenges.
