The Gulf Incentives and Business Travel Meeting exhibition (GIBTM) 2013 has opened its doors in Abu Dhabi.
The 2013 event, taking place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), 25-27 March,
this year welcome 70 new exhibitors to the show floor, with a
substantial increase in European destinations and companies represented,
according to organiser Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE).

participating and first-time destinations including Madrid, Serbia,
Athens, Georgia, Morocco,Ukraine, San Francisco and Belgium.
2,800 visitors are expected to attend the show, including 265 senior
buyers representing vertical sectors such as oil and gas,
pharmaceuticals, IT, finance and automotive as part of the Hosted Buyer
“After a slow but sustained recovery, since 2009,
regional business travel in all forms is firmly back on track due to
confidence in the regional economy and a plethora of venues and
facilities being developed that are attracting global interest,” says
GIBTM Exhibition Manager Lois Hall.
“This bullish outlook is further supported by the findings of the 2013 GIBTM Trends Report, which
shows 80 per cent of global and Middle East buyers forecasting an
increase in conference and events business in the GMENA region in the
next 12 months,” she adds.
Figures released by GIBTM host
destination Abu Dhabi reveal business events contributed AED 2.4bn
(US$65m) to the emirate’s economy in 2010. This is expected to increase
to AED 2.6bn (US$70m) by the end of 2013. Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture
Authority anticipates the economic impact of business events to grow
seven per cent each year until 2020.
Meanwhile, GIBTM will run
daily video news reports from across the exhibition on its website and
global travel and meetings web channel Meeting the World, which is in partnership with CMW’s owner Mash Media.
Meeting the World Editor
Ian Whiteling will be presenting the reports, which will feature
interviews with the organisers, exhibitors, visitors and speakers, to
create an engaging diet of video content for those at the show and those
unable to attend.
