Aberdeen centre hosts Expert’s Evening

Forty local potential conference ambassadors gathered at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC), 5 March, for an Expert’s Evening, co-hosted by VisitAberdeen (the new Destination Marketing Organisation for Aberdeen).

The gathering was the first event in a series planned to run throughout the year.

The inaugural ‘experts’ came from the fields of medical science, life sciences, computing, energy and food science to see a venue showcase of the range of support services available for Aberdeen based academics looking at bidding to bring conferences to the region.

Also in attendance were potential expert ambassadors from the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

This event comes prior to an AECC sales team mission to New York on 8 March to attend the Successful Meetings University, where representatives will meet with buyers from official tourist organisations, hotels, convention and visitor bureaus, destination marketing companies, airlines, and other suppliers Stateside, to promote Aberdeen as an international meetings destination.

The AECC’s association sales team will also be visiting Germany in May this year, to exhibit at the IMEX Frankfurt tradeshow.

AECC MD Brian Horsburgh, said: “We recognise the value of working closely with key experts in the region to help them bring association conferences to the locality. With our two universities boasting four Nobel Prize winners between them, Aberdeen’s academics have a great reputation in many fields.”
