Tourism businesses from across the region were congratulated on 31 January 2013 for the contribution they make to the regional visitor economy, currently worth £4.2bn annually, at the North East England Tourism Awards 2012, held at The Sage Gateshead.
Winners included Tyneside Cinema and BALTIC, who took joint gold in the Large Visitor Attraction category, Rockliffe Hall who won the Business Tourism Award, and Kielder Water & Forest Park who won the Tourism Experience Award. The awards were hosted by BBC Look North presenter Carol Malia.
Organised by NewcastleGateshead Initiative and delivered in partnership with Northumberland County Council, the awards saw almost 400 members of the local business community come together to celebrate the tourism successes of the past year.
The Sage Gateshead’s bid to host the event was successful and the event will took place on the open Concourse space, overlooking the River Tyne, with entertainment from the region’s musicians and a menu that included many local foods, celebrating the overall strength of the North East offer.
