The Meetings Industry Association (MIA) is to organise its next Principals’ dinner on 16 May. The dinner is aimed at bringing together leading venue finding agencies and principals from UK meeting and event venues, with a view to promoting high-level discussions.
The dinner will be held at the Diamond Club, Emirates Stadium, London and the MIA says it hopes to roll out the agent-hosted dinners every six months.
Zibrant, Calder Conferences, Banks Sadler, Venues Event Management and Trinity are agency members signed up to host the venue prinicipals in the Diamond Club.
MIA Chairman, Gary Payne is spearheading the Principals project and says: “Principals is about networking at the highest level, among people making business changing decisions and leading the industry into the future.
“The Principals agent-hosted dinner is an exciting prospect, a rare chance for industry venue leaders to join with the leading venue finding agents, specifically to discuss working better together.”
To apply for a seat at the Principals’ dinner table, venues are required to be members of the MIA Principals Club. For MIA members in their second year and beyond Principals is a free benefit. For newer members and non-members there is a joining fee.
Payne said agents have been keen to be involved in the dinner concept.
“It was clear from the outset that they got what we were trying to achieve in terms of better working relations between agents and venues and totally supported our objectives,” he said. “I now look forward to making this bi-annual dinner a landmark in the UK meetings and events industry calendar.”
The first Principals lunch involved a guest speaker from the Bank of England, and took place at 76 Portland Place, London on 29 January.

This is exactly what I experienced at the MIA Principals lunch. The speaker from the Bank of England, was very knowledgeable and open to discussion. He was well prepared about our industry and gave an excellent overview of why we have got to where we are and what we are likely to expect going forward in terms of growth expectations. I look forward to attending the next Principals lunch as these events will definitely be given priority in my diary,” said Jacqui Kavanagh, Managing Director, Trinity Event Solutions.
