Grass Roots HBI partners with Willow Foundation

Event management agency Grass Roots HBI has appointed the Willow Foundation as its official charity partner.

In the past, colleagues at the company have taken part in a variety of fundraising activities on behalf of charities such as the Stroke Association and Macmillan Cancer Support, but this is the first time the firm has chosen one charity with which to enter into a more structured and ongoing relationship.

The Willow Foundation is the only charity in the UK to provide positive and life-enhancing Special Days for seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds. Through Special Days it aims to enable seriously ill young adults to focus on something positive and motivating, creating special memories with those closest to them and helping them to take advantage of what life has to offer.

To date,Willow has provided more than 9,000 Special Days for young adults living with life-threatening conditions. The Willow Foundation was founded in 1999 by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter, Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs as a lasting memorial to their daughter, Anna, who died of cancer aged 31.

Announcing the partnership, Grass Roots HBI MD, Des Mclaughlin, says: “We have a great bunch of young and energetic people who have a proud tradition of throwing themselves off the side of buildings, running marathons and doing other crazy things to raise money for others less fortunate. We thought it was time to give all this positive energy a common focus and the Willow Foundation ticks all the right boxes.”

Activities already being planned include bike rides, road races, dinner events, along with coffee mornings and bake offs at the firm’s offices in Putney. “The events sector is a particularly generous one and we shall be involving both our clients and our suppliers in our fundraising activities wherever we can,” says McLaughlin.
