Coventry’s Ricoh Arena is set to realise the fruit of a recent £2m investment into the venue’s on-site hotel, with 41 new bedrooms nearing completion.
The additional bedrooms are in the north and south wings of the stadium and are an extension of the existing De Vere Hotel, which will open on 18 January, 2013.
The building contract was with Shaylor Construction.
Liz Cooper, Marketing Director at the Ricoh Arena, said the investment in its hotel accommodation was testament to the success of the venue’s conferences and exhibitions.
“Our conference and exhibition business is growing fast and with over 15,000sqm of event space, the additional hotel rooms are very important regardless of whether it’s a booking for smaller conferences for around 100 to 200 delegates or for larger conferences for between 2,000 to 5,000 delegates,” she said.
“Previously, when we have held large events we have consistently booked rooms in other nearby hotels.
“By increasing our on-site accommodation from the original 71 when we opened in 2005 to 80 in 2011 and now to 121 next year, more event organisers and their delegates will be able to stay on-site.”
The new rooms in the south wing include some pitch-facing rooms overlooking the stadium bowl.
