Manchester Central achieves ISO 20121 certification

Manchester Central claims to be one of the first major conference and events venues in the UK to achieve ISO 20121 certification.

Following the achievement of the new international standard for sustainability, Manchester Central will host industry workshops about the implementation process for ISO 20121 to help other venues, as well as sponsoring the 2013 Sustainable Events Summit due to take place on 24 January 2013.

“We are one of the UK’s leading sustainable venues and one of the only dedicated events and conference venues to achieve ISO 20121 certification,” says Chief Executive of Manchester Central, Angie Robinson.

“We will now do everything we can to help other venues in the UK enjoy sustainable success by sharing our journey and guiding them through the ISO 20121 process,” she adds.

The four quarterly workshops will be run in conjunction with the not for profit sustainability education provider Positive Impact and any business can register to attend.

“We have pulled out all the stops to achieve this and it has involved everything from behavioural changes to physical building alterations,” says Operations Director at Manchester Central, Dirk Pittaway. “We have also taken our sustainable work with the local community to the next level by launching a raft of initiatives. Today our neighbours can share the herbs we grow on site, enjoy a tour of the venue and talk to us about upcoming events to make sure they are ready to take advantage of the benefits they will bring to the city.”
