HBAA rings in the New Year changes and raises £23k for charity

The Hotel Booking Agents Association officially welcomed 2013 Chairman, Zibrant MD for Operations Chris Parnham, to his new role at the association’s annual dinner on 11 January at City venue, The Brewery.

Outgoing Chairman Chris Peacock welcomed Parnham, who outlined his vision for the coming year.

“The HBAA has always delivered great benefit to the industry, whether that be thought leadership, a consistent and proper code of conduct, or training to improve service and delivery. I just want to do more of it,” Parnham said.

“I want more training, more inclusion, so that venue and agent members feel they are getting equal value from the association, more relevant content at meetings and events, and more speed, things can never move fast enough for me,” he added.

Parnham announced the Chairman’s Charity this year would be the Make a Difference Trust which engages celebrities to help raise money, awareness and hope for those living with AIDS, HIV or other long-term chronic illnesses.

Next year’s dinner, Parnham promised, would have a ‘West End’ feel. The dinner at The Brewery raised £23,000 for the outgoing Chairman’s charity the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Funds raised on the evening came from raffle items and auction lots including: a Giant Panda viewing at Edinburgh Zoo, donated by Lime Venue Portfolio; a wine tasting and balloon experience with dinner and B&B at Wootton House in Dorking for eight people, donated by Principal Hayley; and four nights’ B&B in the executive suite at the brand new JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai, for two people.

The Annual Dinner also marked the final official engagement for the association’s Executive Director, Peter Ducker. He leaves to assume the Chief Executive’s position at the Institute of Hospitality.

Juliet Price, Director of Polygon Consulting and 2011 Chairman of the HBAA, has been appointed in an interim role to ensure the continuity of service levels and carry out some of the strategic responsibilities of the Executive Director.
