Aintree reports jump in event bookings in 2012

The conference and events team at Aintree Racecourse has reported a record year, with bookings in 2012 rising 15 per cent.
Conference and Events Manager Debbie Slee (pictured) said: “The last 12 months has been an incredible year for the racecourse, in the face of the recession, we’ve seen strong growth across every aspect of the conference and events team, with bookings performing strongly for exhibitions, conferences and meetings.” Slee reported weddings bookings had soared 20 per cent in 2012.
“The event and conference market can often be a good indicator of economic recovery and confidence, so it’s heartening to see such a strong increase in bookings across the board, including a number of advance bookings already in place for this year.”
The home of the Grand National, Aintree invested £35m in redevelopment in 2007,which included the creation of Aintree Racecourse’s Equestrian Centre. This gave the course 4,800sqm of exhibition space, making it one of the major exhibition venues in the region. The Equestrian Centre was also recently named an official boxing venue for Liverpool by the British Boxing Board of Control.
In recent months Aintree has also invested more than £450,000 in the refurbishment of Princess Royal Stand to create a new lounge and events space, including a new champagne bar.
