Universal WorldEvents launches university placements

Universal WorldEvents has announced the implementation of a new university placement scheme designed to strengthen its relationship with academic institutions offering event management degrees.

Universal WorldEvents received 45 student applications to attend an assessment centre organised by the agency in May. The applications were shortlisted to 12 undergraduates who were all looking for a year’s work placement as part of their degree course.

The assessment consisted of individual presentations, group exercises, a company overview presentation and IT tests.

The agency has since welcomed four successful candidates to join them: Laura Callaghan, studying on the Event Management degree course at Leeds Met; Jessica Dodsley, studying Events Management at Sheffield Hallam University; Laura Paddock, studying Event Management at the University of Chester; and Hannah Schofield, who will work within the agency’s Sales and Marketing team. Hannah is currently at Plymouth University studying for her BA Honours Marketing degree.

Denise Abbott, UK Country Director, said: “This is a brand new scheme we have implemented to demonstrate our commitment to the universities offering event management degrees. Although the academic background is important, we understand that staff learn vital event management skills ‘on the job’ and not just in the classroom, and so we are pleased to offer these valuable placements to our lucky candidates. We look forward to seeing their event careers flourish.”
