International hotel group IHG has appointed Jo Dean to the newly-created role of Meetings and Events Development Manager.

She has been brought in to develop and motivate the meeting and event (M&E) teams across all the Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza brand hotels in the UK. Dean says she is the process of pulling together the teams from all the hotels in order “to build a sense of community and share best practice”.

“What many people don’t realise is that M&E touches all areas of the business: it books meeting space, rooms and accommodation; food and beverage; spa, gym and leisure facilities; and also requires technical services such as Wi-Fi and equipment services,” says Dean. “We really do use all parts of the hotel and our department is a huge driver of spend.”

Jo joined IHG from Hilton Group where she spent 15 years in a variety of roles including Conference and Banqueting Development Manager.

In addition to the appointment, the group has focused heavily on engaging customers and listening to the market. A recent customer engagement survey has developed a core framework that IHG hopes will enable it to create a more compelling offer.

Fourteen UK Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza sites have now achieved AIM accreditation and joined MIA.
