The Event Business Academy has announced a new scholarship programme ‘12 for 2012’. The programme, supported by Nick de Bois MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for UK events, offers 12 free places on the Event Essentials courses (usually priced at £1,750) held at Lincoln College (Oxford University) in July and August.
Talented students from the UK and around the world will have the opportunity to study and gain hands-on experience of the key sporting and cultural events taking place in the UK this summer, including the Olympics and Wimbledon.
Based at the Graduate Centre of Lincoln College, EBA offers unique hands-on courses in event management, as well as on-the-ground learning experiences at this year’s key events.
Applicants for the free 12 places available must, the college says, “demonstrate their passion for the event industry and commitment to excellence in their work”.
In order to open up the UK’s expertise to a global audience and promote the scholarship programme, EBA has joined forces with stakeholders including VisitBritain and Eventia in the UK, and the Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA) in India; the Organising Committee of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games in Russia; the Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (GETEX) in Dubai as well as partners in China, the USA, South Africa and Singapore.
A judging panel of senior executives will make the scholarship awards.
Jeff Hunter, Managing Director of EBA, described the scholarship awards as, “a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity that will inspire young people fromaround the world to get ahead in this growing, dynamic and increasingly global industry”.
“I know from personal experience that event management can be a very challenging but rewarding industry,” said Nick de Bois MP.
“I am delighted to see this investment in our young and talented students by offering practical training that will help shape their future. The scholarship programme will help enable 12 of the most dedicated applicants to learn from the UK’s world-class events and create an enduring legacy. It is crucial that the industry responds to future challenges by supporting more professional training at all levels and this contribution is very welcome indeed.”
Patricia Yates, Director of Strategy and Communications at VisitBritain, commented: “2012 is a great year for presenting the best that Britain has to offer to the world. On top of the hundreds of thousands of additional visitors coming to our shores this summer, initiatives like EBA’s scholarship programme invite motivated students to benefit from an educational experience in a world centre of learning.”
