Kent Event Centre scores 800-delegate event after organiser blocked

The Kent Event Centre in Detling, near Maidstone, has secured its first event booking from an organiser unable to use its ‘normal London venue’ due to the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The venue’s Event Manager, Alison Wallington, tells CN the organiser of the 800-delegate private function approached her on the first day of Confex, 6 March 2012, as they had never heard of the venue before. “They wanted to find out about the venue, its facilities and whether or not we were free in July to hold a function which would normally be held in London.

“The organiser has since signed the contract and although I cannot say what the event is, it does have the possibility of having an attracted exhibition,” she adds.

“While this will be an incredible summer of sport for Britain, the convergence of millions of international Olympic spectators on London is sure to impact on the capital’s ability to host its regular business events. We have the capacity to stage a range of corporate events and we used our presence at Confex to drive home that point to visitors,” she adds.

The Kent Event Centre hosts large-scale trade fairs, conferences, dinner dances and weddings. There are also six meeting rooms, and free parking for 30,000 vehicles.

Last year the venue opened the Clive Emson Conference Centre, at 1,700sqm. The venue also has the Kent Pavilion (3,000 sqm), John Hendry Pavilion (1,750sqm), and the Astor Pavilion (151 sqm).
