Earls Court and Olympia partners with Carbon Voyage

Earls
Court and Olympia (EC&O) Venues
has teamed up with transport
company Carbon Voyage to address the environmental impact of journeys to
and from its venues.

The new online platform provides a
journey-matching service that aims to address both the impact of
transporting organisers, visitors and freight, and save money for users.
Services include organising a shared taxi service to a major airport at
the end of an event, or assisting organisers and exhibitors to share their freight
needs.

“As part of the development of our sustainability
management system, we identified transport is a key factor in our carbon
output,” said EC&O Venues Sustainability Advisor, Emma Wellman.

“Fuel
costs are at least one-third of a freight company’s average monthly
expenses. These statistics show there is huge scope for our industry to
make significant changes that will benefit not just the environment but
also contribute to their bottom-line.”

Carbon Voyage director James Swanston hopes the project will help reduce the problems associated with transport at events. “This
partnership should create an environment where everyone can benefit
from reduced congestion, environmental impacts and also fill many of the
empty return journeys that exist in the freight industry,” he said.

Members
of the Association of Event Organisers, Association of Event Venues and
Event Supplier and Services Association recently met for the inaugural
cross-association sustainability working group meeting.
