Centaur’s launch ’disappointing for industry’, says Confex Director

International Confex’s Portfolio Director, Jonny Sullens, has told CN he questions the need to stretch the industry’s budgets further, in light of Centaur’s launch of a major new meetings show.

Centaur Exhibitions is to launch a major hosted buyer led show for the UK meetings industry at London’s Olympia, 9-11 July 2013. Paul Kennedy, MBE, is the show’s strategic advisor.

Sullens told CN: “The new launch is disappointing from an industry point of view as we are trying to produce a cohesive argument to government about the value of the meetings and events industry.

“I question the need for another show in this sphere, as the launch of the UK Venue Show in February showed us, which wasn’t well supported.

“We have good relations with established shows such as EIBTM and IMEX and of course anything that adds value to the industry we will support.”

Sullens reported a positve first day for International Confex, organised by UBM, at its new home, Excel London.

He said: “We got off to a good start and were pleased with the buzz on the show floor.”
