ACC Liverpool hosts UK’s first carbon neutral business dinner

ACC Liverpool, in partnership with Arup, has hosted what it believes to be the UK’s first carbon neutral business dinner at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress.
The dinner was devised to be carbon neutral, from the locally sourced ingredients through to car sharing and ‘green travel plans’ developed for guests. It helped to raise awareness among business leaders of the complex challenges around managing food, water and energy consumption and how they interrelate.
Arup, the planning, design and engineering consultancy, worked in partnership with Liverpool Vision, ACC Liverpool and ACC Liverpool’s caterer Heathcotes, to organise the event.
Many of the meals ingredients were sourced within a 50 mile radius of the venue; delegates were encouraged to take public transport or car share and were provided with a ‘green travel plan’. All event correspondence was electronic and the only paper materials used were the handmade menus and table place settings on seeded paper, which will be planted in local gardens to grow wild flowers. Heathcotes worked with suppliers to reduce packaging and waste.
ACC Liverpool’s Chief Executive, Bob Prattey, said: “The congress provided a useful platform to raise awareness among business leaders of the important issue of managing food, water and energy consumption.”
Meanwhile Liverpool City Region has launched a new website by produced by Visit Liverpool, the tourist board for the region.
The guide aims to showcase the wide variety of events and attractions that Liverpool City Region has to offer in a high quality format and informative way to maximise the customer experience. The long-term objective is to also inspire domestic and international visitors when planning a trip to the destination.
