Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has joined VisitBritain’s campaign to promote British tourism around the world as an international ambassador.
Aspart of the promotion, Beckham will shoot a short film to support the tourism body’s ‘Great’ campaign. The campaign will also feature one of Beckham’s fashion designs.
“British fashion is a hugely important global industry and our designers have the talent, creativity and skills to rival anywhere in the world,” said Prime Minister David Cameron. “Contributing over £20bn to the British economy each year, our industry inspires. Fashion is a truly great British success story.”
In related news, VisitBritain says it is set to have a 20 per cent increase of its target of hosted buyers attending its March Marketplace (MAMA) at Wembley Stadium, London.
The 180 buyers are expected to attend Day 1 of MAMA, known as the Hosted Buyers Marketplace (HBM). Germany, North America, China, India and the Netherlands make up half of the attendees alongside a range of operators from countries such as Poland, Brazil and the UAE.
The higher than expected turnout is seen as a ringing endorsement of the event by Chief Executive of VisitBritain, Sandie Dawe. “The workshop is proving extremely appealing”, she said. “This gives our hosted buyers an opportunity to meet with the maximum number of UK suppliers in one day. This fits well with our GREAT campaign and shows that Britain has enormous global appeal”.
As well as VisitBritain, MAMA is partnered by UKInbound, the British Hospitality Association (BHA), the Coach Tourism Council (CTC), the British Educational Travel association (BETA), London and Partners, Visit England, Visit Scotland and Travel GBI.
MAMA, 19-20 March, involves two days of one-to-one meetings with international buyers, tour operators, wholesalers and online intermediaries.
