The Director of Marketing for the Welsh Government, Roger Pride, has been seconded to head the citywide tourism bureau, Cardiff & Co, for an initial period of 18 months from February 2012.
As interim MD, Pride will take over from the bureau’s MD, Richard Thomas, who leaves at the end of January 2012 for a position as Head of Marketing, Communications and Audiences for BBC Cymru Wales and a member of BBC Wales’ Executive Board.
The bureau is a public private partnership set up to promote the capital city and its region to the world.
Chairman of Cardiff & Co, Adrian Clark, said Pride’s appointment would help the company build on its successes of the last three years: “Pride is a highly respected and experienced marketing professional. His background in tourism and his close links to the Welsh business community through his work with the Welsh Government will be a huge asset for Cardiff & Co.”
He said an early appointment was important to the company so that there could be a hand-over period. His present role includes marketing across the whole of the Welsh Government’s department for business, enterprise, technology and science.
Pride was the Director of Marketing at the Wales Tourist Board before moving to the Welsh Government. “As an existing board member, I already understand the company’s aims and I am looking forward to working to promote the capital city of Wales,” said Pride. “I have been impressed by the achievements of Cardiff & Co over the last few years and I believe the company now has the potential to play an even more important role in the economic success of our capital city.”
