Four in a bed: EEF Venues’ David Vaughton

EEF Venues consists of four UK venues covering London, Sheffield,
Bristol and Warwickshire. Woodland Grange in Warwickshire is the largest
of the venues with 26 meeting rooms, 114 bedrooms and capacity for up
to 200 delegates.

This is followed by Engineers House in
Bristol, with nine meeting rooms and capacity for 170 delegates,
Broadway House in London with 12 meeting rooms and capacity for up to
110 delegates and Broomgrove in Sheffield with eight meeting rooms and
capacity for up to 90 delegates.

How long has EEF Venues been operating as a conglomerate?

EEF
Venues came into existence in 2008. It consists of four uniquely
individual venues bound through a common way of doing things. EEF’s
parent company is the manufacturers’ organisation, EEF.

Do the venues focus only on events for the manufacturing sector?

Despite
being owned by EEF, we are open to all sectors for events. 
Manufacturing business forms only 10 per cent of our overall business.

Which sectors are popular for business at EEF venues?

We
have seen a marked improvement in the automotive and construction
sectors this year, and these are very profitable for us. Having Woodland
Grange located in the West Midlands has helped us to attract
manufacturing business, which is also profitable for us.

Do your venues see much repeat business?

Seventy
five per cent of our customers have visited our venues before. And the
business we lost through the recession, is coming back from our
regulars, which is promising. Interestingly, our non-residential
properties fared well during the recession.

Which corporate clients do you see a lot of repeat business from?

Costain Construction, Jaguar Landrover and HSBC are all big clients.

Who are your competitors?

De
Vere portfolio, Principal Hayley, Warwick Conferences and Wyboston
Lakes. We also see IET Venues and ETC Venues as competitors.

Does EEF have a social media strategy?

We
are currently trialling a social media strategy in which we are
creating a community that participates in venue feedback. That community
would be rewarded with discounts and offers and the chance to enter
monthly competitions.

What are EEF’s future plans?

My three to five year strategy is to expand our venue offering to the North West of the country.
