As Reed Travel Exhibitions’ EIBTM in Barcelona moved into its final day, Event Director Graeme Barnett said the show was “on target to deliver what we believe will be the most dynamic event in the show’s history. The levels of business activity witnessed over the first two days have been phenomenal”.
The first two days witnessed 67 education seminars sessions and 13 co-located events. There was standing room only at the association programme, a fully-subscribed agency and corporate programmes and Rob Davidson’s annual Trends Survey was delivered to a full house. The CEO Summit attracted 60 business leaders from 20 countries.
Samme Allen, Head of Sales Barbican Centre London, said; “MPI had its best ever attendance at the London & Partners Cocktail reception. Plus my first meeting when the show opened, delivered a major bank who I hope will be bringing multiple events to the Barbican – it’s wonderful, the corporates are back”.
A China Meetings Forum gave 60 delegates a chance to hear direct from China’s industry leaders on how the world’s economic power house is determined to win high profile business led events.
There were 20 exhibitor press conferences over the first two days, with many products and services launched and various promotions including sarong parties, whisky tasting, a German Christmas Market. For those partying hard in Barcelona at the Opium club, there is always good coffee available on the Colombia stand.
The Slovenia Convention Bureau held a private dinner at the El Principal restaurant hosted by Director Miha Kovacevic and nine buyers won prizes to visit Slovenia venues and hotels in the New Year.
Barnett also hailed the widespread instant impact of Twitter at the show for the first time. “For 48 hours it’s as if the networks are only talking about EIBTM and the connection between individuals, exhibitors, suppliers and buyers is clear – they are all planning their business connections and networking on Twitter. There has never been a greater sense of collaboration towards the common goal of bigger, better business opportunities for everyone taking part in the show.”
EIBTM closes at Gran Via, Barcelona 1 December 2011.
