Content from a meeting of 100 European healthcare meetings professionals organised by events agency Zibrant at the Royal College of Physicians in London last week is to be turned into a White Paper in the New Year.
Conference presentations had focused on challenges faced by the healthcare meetings sector, international and UK perspectives on managing compliance, strategic meetings management programmes, and the use of technology to complement a strategic approach to managing meetings and crisis management.
Panellists included meetings representatives from AstraZeneca, Novartis, Pfizer and Takeda Europe, technology providers Arcaneo Metron and StarCite, as well as hotel company Melia Hotels International.
Over 400 individual audience contributions were recorded during the sessions and a post-event survey claimed 99 per cent of participants said they would change something about their practice as a result of attending the conference.
Zibrant’s Global Director of Business Development for Healthcare, Hannah Wilkinson, said: “The healthcare meetings sector has hitherto been quite insular but there now seems to be an appetite to share best practice, particularly in areas such as meetings policy, strategic meetings management and globalisation.”
Wilkinson added that the event would “definitely be repeated next year – dates will be announced shortly”.
AstraZeneca UK Marketing Company Meetings Lead Joanna Lawlor welcomed the opportunity for client, agency and supplier to sit in a room together and discuss “issues that affect us on a day to day basis”.
“I personally found it very useful to see what impact decisions I make have further down the line, especially with the last minute nature of meetings that is becoming the norm,” Lawlor added.
John Walker, MD of the Oxford International meetings agency, said: “Bringing together pharmaceutical companies, agencies and suppliers was a bold move by Zibrant, and one that worked extremely well. It opened up new and interesting areas for further debate in a ‘no holds barred’ atmosphere in a sector which has typically been a rather closed community. A terrific first meeting and I am looking forward to the next.”
Registrations for the event raised £2,000 for industry charity Meetings Industry Meetings Needs.
